The name Allah (الله) holds deep esoteric and numerical significance in Islamic tradition. Using the Abjad system, where each Arabic letter has a numerical value, the four letters of "Allah"—Alif (1), Lam (30), Lam (30), and Ha (5)—sum to 66, a number often meditated upon in Sufism and Islamic mysticism (Ilm al-Huruf). The number 99, representing the 99 Names of Allah (Asma’ul Husna), links symbolically to the human hand: Arabic tradition sees ٨١ (81) naturally inscribed on the right hand, and ١٨ (18) on the left—together adding to 99. If subtracted, 81 − 18 = 63, which aligns with the age of Prophet Muhammad at death, symbolizing a mystical design encoded in the human body.


Additionally, traditional Islamic practices embraced numerology, geometry, and magic squares, like the 3x3 square summing to 15 in all directions, a pattern later expanded to start at 18 and end at 26, producing a magic constant of 66—again echoing the gematria of Allah’s name. Islamic teachings emphasize that knowing the 99 names of Allah brings one closer to Paradise (Sahih Bukhari 54:23), with names like Ar Rahman (The Most Merciful), Al Haqq (The Absolute Truth), and An Noor (The Light) pointing to divine attributes. The hand—with its 33 count points used for dhikr—embodies these sacred numbers, fusing the physical and the divine.
