Unerbittliche Sheriffs, schießwütige Revolverhelden, standhafte Saloonbesitzer und übermütige Cowboys tummeln sich in den Lucky‑Luke-Alben. Für die Reihe ist der französische Cartoonist Jul in die USA gereist, um den Vorbildern der altvertrauten Comicfiguren nachzuspüren. Dabei entdeckt er ganz nebenbei die verborgene Seele der USA ...

In der ersten Folge begibt sich Jul auf die Suche nach Lucky Luke und taucht dabei in die wilde Welt der Cowboys ein. Im Hinterzimmer eines Ladens in Bozeman, Montana, nimmt er das markante Outfit der Comic-Figur mit Cowboyhut, Stiefeln und Gürtel unter die Lupe – und stellt fest, dass es auch ihm ganz gut steht. Was man für Relikte einer vergangenen Zeit halten könnte, gehört noch heute zum Alltag vieler Amerikaner, deren Identität untrennbar mit Westernfolklore verbunden ist.
Schneller schießen als der eigene Schatten, Rinderherden durch die Prärie treiben und in Spielhöllen pokern: Neugierig, manchmal unbeholfen, aber stets enthusiastisch stürzt sich der Pariser Zeichner statt am Zeichenbrett nun ganz real in das Leben des Wilden Westens. Anhand von verrückten Begegnungen mit Menschen, die einem "Lucky Luke"-Album entsprungen zu sein scheinen, porträtiert er die Cowboys von heute.
